The Clean Air in London Campaign has today released new data, collated by the Office for National Statistics, which ranks the top 10 causes of death for every London borough. The statistics show for the first time that air pollution is one of the causes of all the top four male death categories and four of the top five female death categories in London.
These statistics show the direct link that air pollution is having on the health of Londoners right across the capital.
Murad Qureshi AM, London Assembly Labour Group Environment spokesperson, said:
“The figures released today by Clean Air in London are a crucial new development in the campaign against air pollution in the capital. These statistics tell a story of a city where poor air quality is causing loss of life. Air pollution is a silent killer and must be tackled. This latest evidence should be a wakeup call for a Mayor who has consistently failed to combat this problem head on.”
